Gin Kings head coach Tim Cone bared that while he is still far from deciding the crowd darlings’ 15-man roster for the upcoming conference, he nonetheless gave the assurance that all 18 players will be retained for the duration of the season.
“We signed 18 year-long contracts. Everybody has at least a one-year contract. There is no short-term contract. All 18 will stay with us through the year, practice with us, and be there,” Cone said Cone during an episode of SPIN’s Zoom In.
The defending Philippine Cup champions started the off-season by signing free agent MJ Ayaay. The team then pulled the trigger on the long-delayed swap feauring Christian Standhardinger and Greg Slaughter and capped it off by adding rookies Ken Sagulo and Brian Enriquez from the PBA Season 46 Draft.
Cone stressed that the league’s inaugural 3×3 tournament will ensure that all players will be utilized.
“But we have to make a choice on the 15 at some point. But those guys are going to be back-ups. There’s also the 3-on-3 tournament we are thinking about also. There’s a lot of combinations that could occur throughout the year,” said the league’s winningest mentor.
“But those 18 are all going to stay with us. We are not going to cut anybody. We are not going to get rid of anybody. They are all going to stay with us,” he added.
