Allen Durham on Japeth Aguilar’s game-saving block: “I thought that was a foul”

With Brgy. Ginebra up by two, 89-87, and the game clock down to 16 seconds in Game 1 of the 2019 PBA Governor’s Cup best-of-seven Finals series, Meralco import Allen Durham made a beeline for the basket and was about to equalize the score until Gin Kings forward Japeth Aguilar foiled his plan.

The high-leaping member of the national team rejected the shot of the 2-time Best Import awardee with his off-hand to prevent the match from possibly going into an extra period. Justin Brownlee then secured the loose ball and buried two crucial freebies to preserve the hard-earned victory.

Durham, who finished with a triple-double of 25 points, 18 boards and 10 assists, felt that the game officials should’ve called a foul on the play.

“In my opinion, I thought that was a foul. The video made it look like a foul, I mean he was all over my shoulder,” said the bull-strong American reinforcement.

“I guess the refs say he got more ball than body. So you just got to bounce back from that,” he added.

The 31-year old former Barako Bull import, however, admitted that it wouldn’t have come to that point had the Bolts converted more of their shots.

“Personally, I got to shoot better. I didn’t perform to the best of my ability. So I got to be better the next game,” said Durham.

“Our shots weren’t falling. And if a couple of those shots fall, that could kind of loosen up their defense a little bit,” he added.
