Brgy. Ginebra got the players they wanted in Ken Holmqvist and Brian Enriquez

Brgy. Ginebra plucked two virtual unknowns, Sunday in the PBA Season 46 Rookie Draft.
Ken Holmqvist and Brian Enriquez aren’t exactly household names but both obviously impressed Gin Kings head coach Tim Cone enough to merit their 12th and 13th overall selections in the rookie draft with the largest number aspirants in league history.
The legendary mentor bared that both incoming rookies provided good first impressions during the individual workouts which were conducted prior to the draft proper.
“Ken and Brian were strong targets of ours. We had both of them in practice for workout. When we interviewed them, they both seemed to be good teammates and that was important to us,” said Cone.
“Both players are versatile players who can play multiple positions. Ken can go 3/4/5 at 6’8 and Brian can play 1/2/3 at 6’3. When we interviewed them, they both seemed to be a good teammates and that was important to us,” he added.
Holmqvist, a Fil-Norwegian, stands 6-foot-8 and played two seasons of college basketball at Far Eastern University. The 25-year old center was part of the Tamaraws squad that bagged the UAAP title in Season 78. He moved back to Norway and returned to the country just recently to declare his availability for this year’s draft.
Enriquez, on the other hand, is 26 years old and stands 6-foot-3. He suited up for William Woods University in the US NAIA and was supposed to play for the University of the East on a one-and-done deal but decided to try his luck in the PBA instead due to the pandemic.
Holmqvist and Enriquez were the only players chosen by the Gin Kings in the draft.
“I think we have great mentors on the team that will show them the ropes. Their skills will speak for themselves and I think the Gin fans will like them. I think the two rookies will find out very quickly how lucky they are to be able to play in front of the Ginebra Nation,” said Cone.
