Brgy. Ginebra def NLEX, 109-100 [PBA S49 Comm’s Cup | Dec. 11, 2024]
Here comes Barangay Ginebra, now bolstered by Troy Rosario.
After finishing as runners-up to TNT in the last Governors’ Cup, the Gin Kings are ready to jump back into action, featuring a revamped lineup highlighted by the free agent acquisition of Rosario as they face off against the NLEX Road Warriors at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium this Wednesday.
Ginebra is the final squad to make its debut in the midseason tournament, following an extended run in the first conference. Coach Tim Cone, along with key players Justin Brownlee, Scottie Thompson, and Japeth Aguilar, recently contributed to the national team’s efforts in the November window of the FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers.
As they re-enter the PBA arena, the Kings will be without the services of injury-plagued Jamie Malonzo and Isaac Go, but they are set to welcome the prized addition of Rosario.
The former NU Bulldog turned down offers from several franchises to pursue a childhood dream of playing for his beloved team, bringing valuable attributes that could significantly elevate the Gin Kings’ performance.
His size complements the strengths of Aguilar and Brownlee, while his shooting prowess transforms him into a versatile big man, offering a critical advantage to any roster he’s part of.
With palpable excitement, Cone eagerly anticipates finally having Rosario in the lineup as they gear up for the battle on the hardwood.
The first challenge for this retooled Ginebra squad comes against an NLEX team riding a hot three-game winning streak, led by import Mike Watkins.
Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
