NorthPort def Brgy. Ginebra, 119-116 [PBA S49 Comm’s Cup | Jan. 8, 2025]

NorthPort gears up for its first game in 19 days on Wednesday as they aim to solidify their grip on the solo lead against a resurgent Barangay Ginebra in what promises to be an electrifying clash at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.

The highly anticipated tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m., ushering in a challenging stretch for Kadeem Jack and his teammates in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup eliminations. Over the coming weeks, they’ll face formidable foes, including the Gin Kings, Meralco Bolts, Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, and the San Miguel Beermen.

Currently perched atop the standings, NorthPort boasts an impressive 6-1 record, their only setback coming at the hands of the Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters.

In their latest outing, the Batang Pier showcased their offensive firepower, overpowering Hong Kong Eastern with a 120-113 victory. Jack and Arvin Tolentino led the charge, each dropping 38 and 35 points, respectively, proving their potency on the court.

Support from Joshua Munzon, Will Navarro, Fran Yu, Evan Nelle, and Sidney Onwubere has further bolstered the team’s strong start to the conference, fueling hopes for a deep playoff run.

However, head coach Bonnie Tan remains grounded, emphasizing that there’s still a long way to go in the competition.

Wednesday’s encounter marks a significant challenge for the Batang Pier as they face a Barangay Ginebra squad riding high on momentum after back-to-back victories over Magnolia and San Miguel Beer.

To kick off the new year, the Gin Kings decisively defeated the Beermen, 93-81, at the Big Dome, climbing to a 5-2 record.

While coach Tim Cone acknowledges the tough matchup ahead, he’s also quick to point out that NorthPort presents an entirely different set of challenges. The stage is set for a thrilling showdown as both teams vie for supremacy in the PBA landscape.
