Brgy. Ginebra def Phoenix, 109-89 [PBA S47 Govs’ Cup | Mar. 3, 2023]
Depleted, fatigued and all, Brgy. Ginebra has never stopped churning out wondrous job.
And coming off a come-from-behind 112-107 win over the Meralco Bolts, the Kings are fancied to get going as they take a shot at an outright playoff passage versus the Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters in a Friday tiff in the PBA Governors Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Fuel Masters themselves are on a roll but are expected to have their hands full facing the Kings in their 5:45 tussle.
The Kings are pumped up by their victory over the Bolts in a match where they played catch-up basketball most of the way but came through in the homestretch.
“I can’t be proud enough of Justin (Brownlee), Jamie (Malonzo) and Scottie (Thompson). I was with them with Gilas and it’s been a really tough week, especially on Justin in his first Gilas game. They did not manage to (rest) and practice, yet lo and behold, they showed up straight to the game and led the team,” said coach Tim Cone.
“But to win the game, we said that we would need the rest of the team to rely on, and lo and behold, Christian (Standhardinger), Jeremiah (Gray) and Nards (Pinto) stepped up. They’re the key guys,” Cone also said.
The Kings hung tough the best they could before unleashing a big run at the finish to steal the game that sent them to the doorstep of the playoffs and at the same time kept them in strong contention for the Top 4.
