San Miguel def Brgy. Ginebra, 131-82 [PBA S49 Govs’ Cup | Sep. 15, 2024]

For both Barangay Ginebra and San Miguel, it will be a swift turnaround from their previous match as they face off for the second time in the PBA Governors’ Cup eliminations this Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, vying for solo supremacy in Group B.
Both squads are playing their second game in just three nights, with Ginebra recently overpowering erstwhile frontrunner Rain or Shine, 124-102, while San Miguel edged past Phoenix, 139-127, on Friday, also at the Big Dome.
Despite the limited time for preparation, both teams are anticipated to engage in a fiercely competitive battle as they seek to secure an outright playoff berth in their 7:30 p.m. showdown.
The Gin Kings and the Beermen have both climbed to a 5-2 record, tying them with the Elasto Painters following their respective victories on Friday.
However, Justin Brownlee and his teammates are currently riding the hottest streak in the group, remaining unbeaten since their initial 67-73 defeat to the Elasto Painters during an earlier encounter in Candon, Ilocos Sur.
Coach Tim Cone’s squad ignited their impressive run with a thrilling 108-102 victory over the Beermen, bolstered by a sensational 51-point performance from Brownlee on August 27.
Meanwhile, the Beermen have rebounded strongly, embarking on a three-game winning streak that included a one-game experiment with import replacement Sheldon Mac.
They welcomed back Jordan Adams for their last outing, much to their delight, as he spearheaded the team to a commanding 12-point triumph over the Fuel Masters with an explosive performance, scoring 49 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
Now, the next challenge for Adams and the Beermen is a thrilling revenge match against Brownlee and the Gin Kings.
