Brgy. Ginebra def Terrafirma, 109-104 [PBA S47 Govs’ Cup | Mar. 8, 2023]
Pushed to the limit by Terrafirma, Barangay Ginebra found a way to win in the end Wednesday night and, in the process, claimed an outright twice-to-beat incentive in the coming PBA Governors Cup quarterfinals.
Justin Brownlee and his teammates beat Jordan Williams and company in the crunch, squeezing out a 109-104 win that assured the Kings of a Top 4 berth in the single-round-robin elims, regardless of the outcome of their last game versus TNT Tropang Giga on March 17.
The Kings jumped to solo second behind the Tropang Giga (8-1) with their fifth straight win and an 8-2 overall win-loss mark, while sending the Dyip to a 2-9 elims windup.
The Dyip put up incredible stand in their last two outings against the Magnolia Hotshots and the Kings, but succumbed at the finish in each occasion.
Against the Kings, the dealt blow came from Jamie Malonzo as the athletic Fil-Am forward blasted away from defender Andreas Cahilig then thundered with a two-handed jam to make it 109-104 with 13.1 ticks to go.
Nards Pinto and Brownlee delivered big plays earlier, with the former firing a trey to break a 102-all deadlock then the latter scoring on a drive to give Ginebra a 107-104 edge in the last 1:00 mark.
On the defensive side, Brownlee came through with two blocks against Williams inside the final minute as the Kings pulled off the big win ahead of the All-Star Week break.
