Brgy. Ginebra def Terrafirma, 110-99 [PBA S48 Comm’s Cup | Dec. 3, 2023]
Heading to the second half of the elims phase, Ginebra coach Tim Cone is realistic they have to play better if they’re to contend for the crown.
The Gin Kings are right there among the frontrunners with a 3-1 win-loss card but it has been a struggle for the team, needing to fight back from double-digit deficits to win their last two games against the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters and the Blackwater Bossing.
“In some ways, these are good for us because they are tough games and they toughen us up and we have to play well, we have to defend well down the stretch. In that regard, it’s good for us. But we need to play better,” said Ginebra coach Tim Cone.
To play better could be a real requirement for the Kings as they face the Terrafirma Dyip in the 6:30 p.m.mainer in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at PhilSports Arena Sunday.
Coach Johnedel Cardel’s chargers were off to a solid season start, winning two of their first three outings before being hit by health issues faced by import Thomas DeThaey, top local Juami Tiongson and ace rookie recruit Kemark Carino.
The three sat out their 133-93 blowout by the TNT Tropang Giga on Nov. 22.
They all returned to play a week later but might still be feeling the ill effects of their bouts with sickness. The team then suffered another terrible beating, 103-84, this time at the hands of the Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters.
