TNT def Brgy. Ginebra, 99-72 [PBA S49 Govs’ Cup Finals Game 5 | Nov. 6, 2024]
The PBA Governors’ Cup Finals series has evolved into a thrilling best-of-three showdown after Barangay Ginebra’s decisive win on Sunday leveled the championship series at 2-2.
However, Brgy. Ginebra coach Tim Cone is urging his squad to temper their excitement following their back-to-back Finals victories. He hopes the Gin Kings maintain their composure as they prepare to face the Tropang Giga once more in Game 5 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
With both teams benefiting from a two-day break, Cone anticipates that players on both sides will be rejuvenated as they enter this pivotal phase, where the first team to secure two more wins claims the Governors’ Cup crown.
After stumbling in the opening two games of the series—where they were limited to a mere 86 points—the Gin Kings have rediscovered their offensive rhythm, claiming victories in Games 3 and 4 and reigniting their championship aspirations.
Cone noted that veteran forward Joe Devance remains a game-time decision after re-aggravating his knee injury in Game 4. Despite averaging just 10 minutes of play in the last two games, the 6-foot-7 Devance has been instrumental in providing essential support in the frontcourt.
On the other hand, the Tropang Giga continue to pose a formidable challenge, especially with Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, who secured his second Best Import award on Sunday, expected to regain his explosive form following the brief hiatus.
The left-handed former Brooklyn Nets forward has been logging nearly 48 minutes per game in the series, which has left him fatigued during crucial moments in the past two outings.
Nevertheless, the Tropang Giga will need additional contributions from key players such as Roger Pogoy, Rey Nambatac, Poy Erram, and veteran Jayson Castro, while also focusing on re-establishing their defensive tenacity.
