Barangay Ginebra put in all the hard work and got amply rewarded as a result.

The Kings must now exert extra efforts as they take on Rain or Shine at the start of their PBA Philippine Cup quarterfinals match-up at the Smart 5G-powered AUF Sports Arena in Angeles City.

For emerging as the eliminations topnotcher Ginebra now totes a win-once advantage over the Elasto Painters, who come in as the eighth-seed.

The Kings sure hope to take the short route to the best-of-five semifinals, but must first hurdle the same team which eked out an 85-82 overtime decision in their eliminations meeting last Oct. 27.

For sure, the E-Painters would like to extend the series to a deciding game on Sunday despite the odds against such a scenario.

Ginebra has had a plenty of rest since a cruising 102-80 win over Terrafirma last Monday while Rain or Shine is coming off a sorry 88-90 loss to Phoenix just last Wednesday, marking the E-Painters’ sixth game in eight days.

Even before knowing who their next opponent would be, Ginebra coach Tim Cone knows his team’s priority during its downtime.

“The good news is we’re done so we’ve got a few days to rest. So from this day on we could use that to go ahead,” said Cone after the Dyip game.
