Despite offers from China, Korea, Japan, Justin Brownlee more interested in Alab return

Fresh from leading Brgy. Ginebra to its 4th title in the last 4 seasons, Justin Brownlee is understandably a sought-after commodity in the region’s basketball scene.

The 31-year old American recently admitted that he has been swamped by offers from overseas.

“I’ve got some offers in Korea, Japan, and China. That’s it for now. I also got strong offers from Korea and Japan recently,” said the well-loved reinforcement.

Still, Brownlee claims that he is more interested in staying put in the Philippines with a return stint with Alab Pilipinas a big possibility.

“If they need a replacement or anything like that, Alab will be ideal for me. I want to stay here in the Philippines, so maybe I’ll go to Alab if they have a spot for me or if they need a replacement import,” said Brownlee during Brgy. Ginebra’s championship party, Monday night at the Metrotent in Pasig City.

He was part of the Alab squad which won the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) title in 2018 together with Renaldo Balkman and now TNT guard Bobby Ray Parks, Jr. He claimed that he was supposed to return to the SMC-backed team the following season but things fell apart at the last minute.

“I was supposed to play last year but that did not work out,” he explained as the team opted for the Puerto Rican duo of Balkman and PJ Ramos. The team eventually failed in its bid to defend the crown, getting eliminated in the quarterfinal round by the lower-seeded Hong Kong Eastern.

Alab is currently running 3rd in the ABL Season 10 team standings with a 5-3 card with 7-foot-6 Maltese giant Sam Deguara, Nick King and newcomer Prince Williams serving as World Imports.
