Gin Kings close out PBA on Tour with win but lose Jeremiah Gray to injury
Brgy. Ginebra concluded its campaign in the 2023 PBA on Tour with a 91-85 victory over NLEX on Sunday, July 30, at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City, but lost Jeremiah Gray to an apparent knee injury.
The Gin Kings rallied behind Gray and produced a tremendous fourth quarter effort to subdue the Road Warriors and finish the exhibition series on a winning note.
Gray was carried off the court on a stretcher after hurting his leg during a fastbreak play with 22.5 seconds remaining in the third quarter, which somehow served as a dampener for the team and their supporters.
Gray tried to slip past Anthony Semerad, who was in pursuit, but he stumbled and immediately clutched his right knee. He grimaced in agony as team physicians attended to him before transporting him to the nearest hospital.
Von Pessumal picked up the slack, finishing with a team-high 23 points – none more significant than the final three points he scored on three-point play, giving the crowd darlings an 89-80 advantage with just under two minutes remaining.
Sidney Onwubere contributed 16 points, while Donald Gumaru contributed 13 points.
The Gin Kings were down by two points, 66-68, when Gray came down with an injury.
Sean Anthony and Semerad provided a lethal one-two punch with 26 and 24 points, respectively, but it was not enough as NLEX concluded the preseason with a loss and a 5-6 record.
