Gin Kings get back on track with 26-point rout of Bossing

Brgy. Ginebra snapped out of a 2-game slide and demolished a slumping Blackwater side by 26 points, 119-93, Sunday in the elimination round of the PBA Season 47 Governors’ Cup at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

The Gin Kings, who previously lost to sister teams Magnolia and San Miguel, picked up their 4th win in 6 outings while the Bossing absorbed their 6th defeat in 7 starts.

Christian Standhardinger once again shone the brightest for the defending champs as the 33-year old Fil-German followed up his 29-point output against the Beermen with another team-best scoring performance of 27 points to go with 6 rebounds, 5 assists and a steal in 36 minutes of play.

“We knew tonight that we had to kinda jump out of that and make sure that we’re beating the teams we’re supposed to beat,” said Gin Kings head coach Tim Cone during the post-game presser.

“And I think that was just really on everybody’s minds. We needed to come out and make sure that we got this one tonight. I don’t think we did anything special. I just think we came out and played our game,” he added.

Jamie Malonzo added 25 points, 7 boards and 3 dimes while Justin Brownlee finished with an all-around statline of 22 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks. Scottie Thompson and Jeremiah Gray chipped in 11 and 8 markers, respectively.

The Gin Kings converted 48 out of 78 attempts from the field for a cool 61% shooting clip while issuing a total of 33 assists compared to only 17 by their opponents.

“We pride ourselves on ball movement. We’ve done that conference after conference. We pride ourselves in our unselfishness. That’s something that we look for every game,” explained Cone.

Brgy. Ginebra will have an extended break due to the 6th window of FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers and will return to the hardcourt on Wednesday, March 1, 5:45pm to take on the Meralco Bolts at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
