Gin Kings solve Tropang Giga puzzle, take Finals Game 3
Justin Brownlee appeared visibly exhausted and was limping in the late stages of the game, as if he had nothing left in the tank. Yet, against all odds, he found the strength to deliver critical plays when it mattered most.
The resident import of Barangay Ginebra unleashed a powerful three-pointer and followed it up with two pivotal blocks down the stretch, helping the Kings secure a vital 84-71 victory over the TNT Tropang Giga in Game 3 of the PBA Season 49 Governors’ Cup Finals at Smart Araneta Coliseum on Friday, Nov. 1.
Brownlee had struggled throughout the series but finally broke through, sinking his first three-pointer of the Finals with just over six minutes remaining. This ignited an impressive 16-3 finishing surge for the Kings, narrowing their series deficit to 1-2.
As the final moments ticked away, Ginebra ramped up their defensive efforts, with Brownlee embodying the team’s determination to seize a win in the Finals. He thwarted two critical shots—first blocking a three-point attempt from Calvin Oftana and then delivering a crucial rejection on Glenn Khobuntin’s layup.
Brownlee concluded the night with a double-double, posting 18 points and 13 rebounds while making a significant impact on defense with four blocks and one steal.
With Brownlee opting for a supporting role on offense, Maverick Ahanmisi stepped into the spotlight, contributing 15 points, including a shot clock-beating layup that pushed the Kings to a comfortable 79-69 lead with just 1:32 remaining.
Scottie Thompson also netted 15 points, while Stephen Holt and Japeth Aguilar each added 10 points and combined for 13 rebounds.
Rondae Hollis-Jefferson played every minute of the game for the second consecutive time, posting impressive stats of 24 points, 14 rebounds, seven assists, four steals, and one block. However, his efforts went in vain as TNT failed to seize opportunities to demoralize Ginebra.
Poi Erram contributed 12 points, with Jayson Castro and RR Pogoy each adding 10.
