Greg Slaughter has already signed new contract with Brgy. Ginebra, reveals Tim Cone

Greg Slaughter is all set for a Brgy. Ginebra return.

The 32-year old Fil-Am has already signed a new contract with the reigning Philippine Cup champions, as per head coach Tim Cone.

Cone made the revelation on Twitter after a user asked about the status of the 1st overall pick of the 2013 draft and tagged the amiable coaching legend.

“Who will @manilacone pick in this year’s draft? Is greg signed? Will there be impeding trades to further upgrade its roster? Will he trade for Troy Rosario,” wrote Twitter user @CarloAMMags.

“No answers yet, except that Greg is signed,” replied Cone.

Slaughter left for the US immediately after the Gin Kings bagged the 2019 Governors’ Cup title and claimed that he wasn’t offered a contract renewal after the old one lapsed at the end of January 2020.

“I was not offered a deal by Ginebra even after my contract expired at the end of January. I found it strange because previous contract dealings I was well informed ahead of time,” explained Slaugher.

SMC sports director Alfrancis Chua, however, insisted that there was actually an offer on the table but neither Slaughter nor his agent bothered to talk to him with regards to the new deal.

“Ang daming nagsasabi, we didn’t offer a contract. Alam niyo, sa basketball, PBA or sa corporate, kapag expired ang contract mo, ikaw ang lalapit sa team. You are going to ask, expired na ako, baka puwede akong mag-renew. Hindi kami ang lalapit para tanungin kung irerenew ka namin,” said Chua.

The former Ateneo de Manila center returned to the country last October after an 8-month hiatus and tied the knot with long-time girlfriend Schinina Juban. He apologized to team management for his actions and it eventually paved the way for his much-anticipated comeback.
