Jamie Malonzo out for 6 to 8 weeks, says Tim Cone

Brgy. Ginebra fans will have to brace themselves for a temporary absence of Jamie Malonzo, who is expected to sit out for six to eight weeks due to a left calf tear, as confirmed by head coach Tim Cone.

“Initial prognosis is calf tear. 6-8 weeks before he can return to the lineup,” said the concurrent Gilas Pilipinas mentor on Wednesday.

While initial fears of an Achilles injury have been laid to rest, Malonzo’s injury still deals a significant blow to a Ginebra team that is just finding its groove in the All-Filipino conference.

With limited wing depth and Jeremiah Gray still on the road to recovery, the team will need to rely on their collective strength to fill the void left by Malonzo’s absence.

The dramatic fall that led to Malonzo’s injury during their recent game against NorthPort serves as a reminder of the physical toll that professional basketball can take.

However, the Gin Kings have shown resilience with back-to-back wins and will look to carry that momentum into their upcoming game against TNT on April 19 at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

Despite the setback, the crowd darlings will need to adapt and rally together to maintain their competitive edge in the league.

With Malonzo’s impressive contributions of 14.1 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game, his absence will undoubtedly be felt on the court. But as the team faces this challenge head-on, they will have the opportunity to showcase their depth and determination moving forward.
