Japeth Aguilar likely out for two to three weeks

Brgy. Ginebra forward Japeth Aguilar is nursing a sprained MCL and it has prevented the 34-year old Pampangeño from seeing action during the team’s match against Phoenix Wednesday night.

The 2009 PBA 1st overall pick’s injury was a huge blow for the Gin Kings who are still fighting for a spot in the quarterfinal round of the All-Filipino conference. The Tim Cone-mentored squad currently ranks 8th in the Philippine Cup standings with 4 wins and 5 losses.

Prior to the game against the Fuel Masters, the 2019 PBA Governor’s Cup Champions occupied 9th spot with 3 wins against 5 defeats.

Gin Kings coach Tim Cone said during a post-game presser that Aguilar could be out for two to three weeks.

“The good news is that he has no tear in the MCL. So it’s really a sprain, and that could take up two to three weeks of repair to get back.” said Cone.

“It’s like a sprained ankle. You can play a sprained ankle, but it’s very painful. It’s swollen, it’s hard to jump,” he added.

Aguilar, who wore a protective brace in his left knee during their last game, is listed day-to-day in the crowd darling’s injury report.
