Justin Brownlee rushed to hospital due to ‘severe’ case of food poisoning

Justin Brownlee was rushed to the hospital due to a severe case of food poisoning during Game 5 of the PBA Season 47 Governors’ Cup Finals.

Brgy. Ginebra’s resident import was subbed out in the 7:19 mark of 3rd quarter and he proceeded to the dugout after the period came to a close. Without Brownlee, the local Gin Kings tried but failed to overcome the TNT juggernaut and absorbed a 9-point beating, 114-105. The defending champs fell down in the best-of-seven series, 2-3.

Gin Kings head coach Tim Cone bared that Brownlee’s food poisoning was so severe that he had to be brought to the hospital shortly after retreating to the locker room.

“He had severe food poisoning and he tried to go through the first half. Did a pretty good job. But by halftime, he was out,” said Cone.

“You could see it when he started in the second half. He just didn’t have anything. He was throwing up at halftime. He was throwing up on the bench when we took him out,” he added.

“Now, we’ve taken him to the hospital, something we probably should have done before the game even started.”

A source disclosed that the newly naturalized Filipino was still doing well during the team’s Tuesday practice and got sick on game day. He was throwing up and had to take IV fluids prior to the pivotal match.

Despite not being a hundred percent, Brownlee still managed to contribute 14 points, 4 rebounds, a steal and a block in 25 minutes of play.

Cone said that his absence was definitely felt by the team and that they’re hoping for the best come Game 6 on Friday.

“It’s tough when your best player couldn’t play in the second half. He wanted to come and try. So he tried. It wasn’t enough. Bottomline, we made some turnovers. We couldn’t rebound without Justin there. That’s the story of the game,” explained Cone.

“Hopefully, Justin’s going to be better after being in the hospital. We will see. It’s pretty severe. It’s really severe food poisoning. Hopefully, after 48 hours, he can come back and get ready to play,” he added.
