Justin Brownlee signs with IBL team Pelita Jaya
As Justin Brownlee eagerly anticipates his return to the PBA and his upcoming stint with Gilas Pilipinas, he has decided to reinforce the Pelita Jaya Basketball Club in the Indonesian Basketball League.
The announcement of Brownlee’s signing by Pelita Jaya on Wednesday, March 20, has undoubtedly added an extra layer of strength to an already formidable squad, which is already bolstered by a couple of former NBA players.
Having obtained permission from the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas and his PBA team Brgy. Ginebra to play abroad, Brownlee is determined to stay in prime condition during his time away from the Philippine basketball scene.
While it may be several months before Brownlee graces the PBA court again, with the Philippine Cup still in full swing, his next challenge awaits in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in July as part of the national team.
The decision to play in Indonesia represents a strategic move for Brownlee as he strives to regain his peak performance level following a significant hiatus brought about by a doping test setback during the Asian Games in China last October.
Despite his extended break from competitive play, Brownlee showcased his undeniable skills for the Philippines, delivering impressive averages of 21 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block in dominating wins against Hong Kong and Chinese Taipei during the initial FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers.
Teaming up with Pelita Jaya, Brownlee will be surrounded by a talented roster featuring Thomas Robinson and KJ McDaniels, both of whom have previously made their mark in the PBA.
Additionally, the team boasts the likes of Malachi Richardson, JaQuori McLaughlin, and Indonesian national team stars Brandon Jawato, Anthony Beane, and Andakara Prastawa.
Currently holding a stellar 7-1 record, Pelita Jaya is gearing up for their upcoming face-off against RANS Simba Bogor on Saturday, March 23.
Brownlee’s integration into the team is sure to make waves in the Indonesian Basketball League, further solidifying their status as a force to be reckoned with.
