LA Tenorio determined to win the prestigious Philippine Cup
Brgy. Ginebra chief playmaker LA Tenorio is setting his sights on the Philippine Cup title, something that has eluded the 35-year old native of Nasugbu, Batangas since he turned pro in 2006.
“I’m really determined to win the All-Filipino. Kung mana-naturalize lang namin si Justin (Brownlee and get him to play as a local), nakuha na namin ang All-Filipino. Ganoon ko kagusto makuha ang all-Filipino,” said Tenorio shortly after the Gin Kings successfully reclaimed the Governors’ Cup crown at the expense of the Meralco Bolts.
The former San Miguel and Alaska player has now accumulated a total of 5 titles in his 13-year PBA career but all came during import-spiced conferences.
“Lahat ng championship ko with imports,” said the national team mainstay who has three Governors’ Cup and one Commissioner’s Cup trophies – all with Justin Brownlee at Brgy. Ginebra and a 2010 Fiesta Conference crown with Diamon Simpson and the Aces.
“Iba kasi iyung all-Filipino. Alam naman natin yun. But it’s not easy. Kung mahirap itong pinagdaanan namin sa Governors’ Cup, sigurado mas triple pagdadaanan namin to get that championship,” he added.
And with the team coming off a championship conquest, the 2013 Commissioner’s Cup Best Player of the Conference awardee is hopeful that the momentum generated will be carried over to the Philippine Cup with kicks off on March 1.
“I think with the way we played as a team, especially on defense, (we’ll have a chance). I hope madala namin ito sa all-Filipino,” he said.
