LA Tenorio more concerned about Brgy. Ginebra’s poor execution than his scoreless game

La Tenorio laid a big fat egg in Game 1 of Brgy. Ginebra’s best-of-three quarterfinals duel with Meralco which ended up with the Bolts drawing first blood via 11-point rout, 93-82.

The 38-year old native of Nasugbu, Batangas, however, isn’t concerned with his scoreless performance but he is with the crowd darlings’ poor execution all-game long.

“Okay lang, ‘di ako bothered dun eh. I’m more bothered on how we played today. People will see individual stats and everything but they don’t know what is happening inside the game plan,” said Tenorio who saw action for 32 minutes and missed all of his 5 attempts from the field, including 3 from beyond the arc.

“I have to be more aggressive offensively pero di yun yung nabo-bother ako masyado in this game. It’s really how we played as a team. Medyo di maganda yung connection, parang walang connection inside the court,” he added.

It was Tenorio’s first scoreless game since firing blanks (0-of-13) against TNT during last season’s Philippine Cup.

The Gin Kings indeed looked disoriented especially in the 3rd frame wherein they were outscored, 27-19, and fell behind by 18 going into the payoff period. They failed to contain the trio of Chris Newsome, Aaron Black and Allein Maliksi who were all able to score in double-digits in the opening half alone.

“We didn’t do the game plan properly. I think yung nangyari sa amin ngayon our defense which is yun yung identitty namin sa team. Ang gulo,” said Tenorio.

“Pagdating sa playoffs we can’t afford to commit mistakes defensively alam naman natin ‘yung Meralco diba. We can commit mistakes offensively but defensively we cannot commit mistakes against them kasi yun talaga yung strength nila, making harder for the other teams defensively and offensively,” he explained.

Despite being down 0-1, Tenorio remains hopeful with the Gin Kings’ chances going into do-or-die Game 2 which is set on Friday, July 29, 3:00pm at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.

“The good thing about it is we still have one more game to play. We still have a chance with our backs against the wall again, and for sure it’s gonna be harder this time knowing sobrang eager ang Meralco na talagang talunin kami.”
