LA Tenorio set for comeback on Sunday against Terrafirma

LA Tenorio is set to return to the hardcourt on Sunday, December 3, when Brgy. Ginebra takes on Terrafirma in the PBA Seaspon 48 Commissioner’s Cup at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

The 39-year-old Tenorio has been diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer last March and immediately went into treatment.

On September, he announced that he is cancer-free after a PET (positron emission tomography) scan in Singapore.

“Yes, LA is expecting to return to play on December 3. We’re all excited for him,” said Gin Kings coach Tim Cone.

The league’s winningest mentor added that 4th overall pick of the 2006 draft has already been training with the team after serving as assistant coach for Gilas Pilipinas during the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China where the national team bagged the gold medal.

“He’s been practicing with us for the last several weeks, so he should be ready. We miss his leadership on the floor,” bared Cone.

Although Tenorio’s playing time in his PBA comeback remains a question mark, he has gradually acclimated himself to the team’s system given the abundance of guards led by Scottie Thompson, Stanley Pringle, John Pinto, and new recruit Maverick Ahanmisi, who has been instrumental in the crowd darling’s impressive 3-1 start.

Tenorio, who owns the all-time PBA record 744 consecutive games played, missed his first PBA game in 17 years on March 1 due to his cancer diagnosis.
