Mark Caguioa has already retired, reveals Tim Cone
Mark Caguioa has played his last PBA game.
The 42-year old Fil-Am has quietly decided to retire from the league as per Brgy. Ginebra head coach Tim Cone.
Cone divulged that the 3rd overall pick of the 2001 rookie draft wants to leave the game without fanfare, reason why he hasn’t announced anything with regards to his future with the team.
“Mark has quietly, from what I understand, decided to retire,” said Cone during the PBA Media Day at the Novotel on Thursday.
“He didn’t want any fanfare. He didn’t want any retirement ceremony. We asked him,” he added.
The league’s most successful bench tactician also disclosed that Caguioa has stopped attending team practices.
“To be sure, you need to talk to management, Alfrancis Chua or Reyboy Rodriguez to get the real story on Mark,” said Cone.
Caguioa spent his entire 21-year career with the Gin Kings and was part of 9 PBA championships. He was crowned as the Rookie of the Year in 2001, bagged 3 Best Player of the Conference awards and took home the MVP plum in 2012. He is a member of the league’s 10,000-point club and 40 greatest players.
Cone had previously mentioned that the 6-foot-2 guard is welcome to return anytime and that a place in the coaching staff is already reserved for him.
