Mark Caguioa reveals target is to play 20 years in the PBA

Brgy. Ginebra veteran Mark Caguioa revealed that his career goal is to play 20 years in the PBA.

The 41-year old Caguioa, who recently became the only player in the league to play for 18 seasons with a single franchise, is actually ready for another tour of duty with the team that took him 3rd overall in the 2001 rookie draft.

“Like I said, my target is 20 years,” said the 3-time Best Player of the Conference awardee.

“But it’s really up to management. If I need to hang it up, then so be it. I would still love to play, but di ko rin masasabi. I’m ready for it,” he added.

Caguioa, who celebrated his birthday inside the PBA bubble, won his 9th title after the Gin Kings made short work of TNT in the Finals of the 2020 Philippine Cup. It was his 3rd All-Filipino crown and the first one since 2007.

“After 13 years, yung feeling ko, although di ako naglalaro, pero yung feeling ko na nag-champion kami ng All-Filipino parang pareho rin, same feeling like yung naglalaro ako,” said Caguioa.

With retirement just around the corner, the 13-time PBA All-Star admits that he is going to miss a lot of things once he finally decides to call it a day. And the team’s fans are on top of that list.

“The fans are really the ones who keep me going. Like I said, I get sad, I really, really get sad just thinking about that day (retirement), not being with my teammates, the fans,” stressed Caguioa.

“Dito na ako lumaki. I just turned 21 years old nung nandito ako sa Ginebra. Right now, I’m 41 years old. So kalahati ng buhay ko dito sa Ginebra. It’s so hard.”

And as a parting shot for his so-called ‘haters’, the 2012 PBA MVP had this to say, “Maski tawagin nila akong Gatorade. Hey, I got the best seat in the house!”
