No foul during final play of San Miguel vs Brgy. Ginebra game, says PBA

The PBA stood by the decision of its referees not to call a foul on Scottie Thompson during the final play of the Brgy. Ginebra vs San Miguel game last Sunday.

The Gin Kings eventually won the match thanks to Thompson’s clutch corner three which gave the Gin Kings the lead, 97-96, and eventually the win despite trailing by 19 early in the final frame.

League chief Willie Marcial said that there was indeed no reason to call a foul during the closing seconds of the game which saw SMB import Devon Scott fumble the ball due to the suffocating defense put up by Thompson and Justin Brownlee.

Brownlee eventually secured the leather and held on to it until the buzzer sounded.

As such, no suspensions are in order for the game officials who called the match, unlike Friday’s tussle between Bay Area and Meralco wherein a referee is facing suspension after failing to call a crucial 8-second violation on the Bolts.

SMB import Devon Scott earlier claimed during an interview that he was indeed fouled by the reigning league MVP.

“Honestly, the last possession, I played a lot of basketball in different places. That’s a foul anywhere else in the world,” said Scott.

“There’s no way in the world of basketball any player can just run through any player to get the basketball and not be a foul,” he added.

Chris Ross, meanwhile, was visibly frustrated with the no-call and replied to the league’s post on Twitter regarding Brgy. Ginebra’s come-from-behind win.

“Who is getting suspended this game?” tweeted the veteran guard.
