PBA moves Season 48 opening to November 5

The Philippine Basketball Association has moved the opening of Season 48 from October 15 to November 5, according to league commissioner Willie Marcial.

The pro league, according to Marcial, is working on finalizing the playing venues.

“We’re working on finalizing the playing venues because they are all booked (by different leagues),” said Marcial.

Instead of the usual Philippine Cup, Season 48 is scheduled to start with the Commissioner’s Cup, in which each team is allowed to bring in a 6-foot-9 reinforcement.

The pro league has been on an extended sabbatical since last season’s Governors Cup, which concluded in the third week of April, with TNT defeating Brgy. Ginebra in six games.

The prolonged break allowed Gilas to prepare for and compete in the 2023 FIBA World Cup, which ended with Germany emerging as champions after defeating Serbia in the final, 83-77.

Gilas, currently led by interim coach Tim Cone, held its first practice on Monday as it prepares for the 19th Asian Games, which begin on September 23 in Hangzhou, China. The Filipinos will face Bahrain on the 26th, Thailand on the 28th and then Jordan on the 30th.
