Raymond Almazan says facing favorite team Brgy. Ginebra in the Finals a dream come true
The upcoming ‘Finals Trilogy’ between Brgy. Ginebra and Meralco has been considered by many as dream championship duel.
The Gin Kings have won the previous two battles – the 2016 and 2017 edition of the PBA Governors’ Cup, while the Bolts aching to finally redeem themselves in this year’s staging of the season-ending conference.
For self-confessed Brgy. Ginebra fan and Meralco big man Raymond Almazan, the Finals pairing is indeed a dream come true.
“Dream come true sa akin na makalaban ang Ginebra sa finals talaga,” said the 30-year old product of Colegio de San Juan de Letran.
“Bata pa lang ako, nagkakagulo na sa bahay namin pag umuwi ako galing school. Tapos tatanungin ko, ‘Anong pinapanood ninyo?’ Yun pala nasa finals ang Ginebra. So honest lang ako, bata pa lang talaga ako, Ginebra fan talaga ako,” he added.
With age fast caching up on him, the native of Orion, Bataan admitted that facing his favorite team in the Finals has always been on his wish list.
“Kasi hindi naman tayo lahat bumabata sa PBA, so gusto ko bago ako mag-retire o mawala sa PBA, makalaban ko muna yung idol ng lahat ng teams,” said Almazan who was still a member of the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters when the team claimed the 2016 Commissioner’s Cup crown.
With the Bolts getting the raw end of the deal during the first two ‘last dance’ meetings, the 3rd overall pick of the 2013 draft is hoping for a different ending this time around.
“Sana maging iba naman yung result this time.”
