Scottie Thompson expresses frustration over late non-call on Mark Barroca

Scottie Thompson firmly believes that a foul should have been called during his last-second attempt to save Brgy. Ginebra in their PBA Season 48 Commissioner’s Cup game against Magnolia on Sunday night.

“Iba-iba ‘yung tingin nila. For me, foul para sa’kin nung nakita ko ‘yung replay,” said Thompson shortly after the defending champs picked up their first loss of the new season.

“Pero, ‘yun nga, baka hindi clear lane ng referee.”

With only 11.5 seconds left and the Gin Kings down by just a point, Thompson received the ball from Christian Standhardinger and immediately drove to the basket. However, he missed the shot as Mark Barroca appeared to have hit the former MVP on his shooting arm.

Brgy. Ginebra’s coaching staff and players were outraged that no foul was called, as they certain that there was contact in mid-air.

Unfortunately, the team had no timeouts left to challenge the play, and they were forced to foul Jio Jalalon to stop the clock.

Despite Jalalon only making one of his free throws, the Gin Kings were unable to tie the game as Standhardinger missed a contested mid-range jumper.

“Iba iba yung nakikita. Ano lang, sadly wala ng challenge,” said Thompson, who finished with 12 points, 8 rebounds, and 9 assists.

Thompson and the rest of the crowd darlings are determined to view their recent loss as a valuable learning experience, despite its difficulty. They are committed to extracting important lessons from it, particularly in terms of safeguarding substantial leads in the future, as they unfortunately let slip a commanding 26-point advantage in the second quarter.

“We’re gonna learn from this. Lahat ng teams very tough, kailangang maging ready. Of course down kami, but early pa sa season namin. But ‘yun nga sabi ko, good thing nangyari sa amin ‘to ngayon. Bigger picture,” explained the 2-time PBA Finals MVP.

“Babalikan namin ‘tong game na ‘to and matututo kami. Especially, the new group sa’min sa team.”
