Scottie Thompson gets his college degree at Perpetual

Scottie Thompson wasn’t able to join Gilas Pilipinas in a mini-pocket tournament in China.

As a result, the do-it-all Brgy. Ginebra guard was able to attend his graduation ceremonies at the University of Perpetual Help System Dalta on Wednesday at the Plenary Hall of the Cultural Center of the Philippines Complex.

The 30-year-old Thompson received a degree in Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in Marketing Management. He was one of 671 students that graduated from the university for the 2022-2023 school year.

The 2021 PBA MVP is currently recovering from a metacarpal fracture in his right hand which he suffered during Gilas’ training camp in Europe last month.

The injury prevented him from participating in a mini-pocket tournament in China against the national sides of Iran and Senegal.

Thompson was a recipient of the Dr/BGen Antonio Laperal Tamayo Leadership Plaque for Sports and Athletics during the commencement ceremony. UPHSD President Dr. Anthony Tamayo, Vice Chair Dr. Daisy Moran Tamayo, Executive Vice President Marjorie Gutierrez-Tangog, and Dr. Arnaldo De Guzman, UPH-Las Pinas City campus, school director, presented the award.

Thompson’s No. 6 jersey was retired by the Altas last February in recognition of his exploits in basketball, which included being awarded PBA MVP and winning 7 championships with the Gin Kings.

From 2011 until 2015, the Padada, Davao del Sur native played college basketball at UPHSD in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). He was the Altas’ sixth man in his debut season, averaging 6.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.9 assists in 18.3 minutes per game.

He was selected as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in NCAA Season 90.
