Scottie Thompson, Japeth Aguilar make it to Gilas Final 12 for Lebanon game
The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) has released the final composition of the Gilas Pilipinas Men’s team which will see action against Lebanon in the 4th window of the FIBA World Cup Asian qualifiers.
The game against the Cedars will take place on Friday, August 26, 2:00pm (Philippine time) at the Zouk Mikael, Nouhad Nawfal Sports Complex in Lebanon.
The SBP announced on Thursday that former Terrafirma Dyip wingman Roosevelt Adams has been cut from the national team’s Final 12 for tomorrow’s match.
“Our Gilas Pilipinas Men’s National Basketball Team is raring to go all out for flag and country,” said SBP Executive Director and spokesman Sonny Barrios.
“Each one, to the last man, is fully committed to giving his very best, inspired by the support and prayers of his countrymen. Let us continue to wish them well and cheer them on as they play for all of us away from home. LABAN PILIPINAS! PUSO!” he added.
Leading the charge for Gilas is NBA player Jordan Clarkson. The 30-year old Utah Jazz guard arrived in the country a week ago and even watched Game 1 of the PBA Finals between San Miguel and TNT. He will serve as the team’s naturalized player.
Carried over from the Asia Cup roster are brothers Kiefer and Thirdy Ravena, Bobby Ray Parks, and Carl Tamayo.
Reigning PBA MVP Scottie Thompson along with Brgy. Ginebra teammate Japeth Aguilar are back on national duty along with NLEX rising star Calvin Oftana.
Rounding up the squad are 7-foot-3 prodigy Kai Sotto, Japan B.League import Dwight Ramos and neophytes Chris Newsome and Jamie Malonzo.
Gilas program director Chot Reyes will assume the role of head coach and will be assisted by Tim Cone and Jong Uichico.
The Filipinos are coming off back-to-back losses at the hands of the Lebanese, both in the FIBA Asia Cup (2017 and 2022).
Sayang yung Adams, sana isang Ravena na lang yung tinanggal. Lalo na yung Kiefer, kasama na nung SEA Games pa lang pero wala naman significant contribution.
