Scottie Thompson signs fresh three-year max deal with Brgy. Ginebra
Not wanting Scottie Thompson to turn into an unrestricted free agent by next season, Brgy. Ginebra locked up the fledging superstar with a three-year deal which will run until 2025.
The 27-year old native of Padada, Davao del Sur announced the latest development on his social media accounts via photo with San Miguel Corp. Sports Director Alfrancis Chua. Thompson wrote “Maraming Salamat Boss Al” together with three padlocks and the hashtag NSD.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed except that it was maximum amount allowed under the league’s salary cap rules.
The 5-time PBA champion and 1-time PBA Finals MVP (2018 Commissioner’s Cup) has endeared himself with the fans of the league’s most popular squad by virtue of his hard work and persistence on both ends of the court.
Thompson’s agent Danny Espiritu bared that it was the former Perpetual Help standout who requested for an extension even before the August expiration of his contract and Chua readily obliged.
“Kaya ang laki ng pasasalamat namin ni Scottie kay Boss Al for granting the request. Masayang-masaya si Scottie to stay at Ginebra,” said Espiritu.
“Halos lahat naman ng mga players gusto maglaro for Ginebra,” he added.
Thompson submitted 22-game averages of 11.0 points on 43.9 percent shooting, 8.8 rebounds, a league-high 5.8 assists and 1.0 steals in 36.5 minutes per contest during the 2020 Philippine Cup inside the PBA bubble in Clark, Pampanga.
