Sol Mercado gets offer to play for Alab Pilipinas but PBA return still top priority

Sol Mercado is currently attending the practices of San Miguel Alab Pilipinas with suiting up for the Philippine representative to the ASEAN Basketall League (ABL) for the remainder of the season a big possibility.

The 35-year old Fil-Am, who was acquired by the Phoenix Pulse Fuel Masters from NorthPort in exchange for the duo of LA Revilla and Rey Guevarra earlier this year, was recently given his release papers after contract negotiations bogged down.

Mercado disclosed that he has been joining Alab’s practices with permission form the team’s head coach Jimmy Alapag in order to stay in shape.

“Obviously, I’m very good friends with Jimmy so he allowed me to come here and practice with the team, be around with the guys, and be able to stay in shape to whatever opportunity comes up,” said Meraco during an interview with at the Kerry Sports Center in Taguig.

“He actually asked me if I could finish the season with them but I would like to play for a PBA team this conference if possible. We will see what happens,” he added.

Prior to his stint with the Batang Pier, Mercado played for four seasons with Brgy. Ginebra and was a part of 3 championships. The 5th overall pick of the 2008 draft also had stints with Rain or Shine, Meralco and San Miguel.
