Sol Mercado remains a free agent after PBA signing period lapses

Former Brgy. Ginebra playmaker Sol Mercado won’t be joining the PBA bubble in Clark, Pampanga.

The 36-year old Fil-Am was left unsigned after the deadline of enlisting free agents lapsed Friday, September 25.

Mercado’s agent Charlie Dy confirmed the unfortunate development but remains steadfast that the 3-time PBA champion will find his way to a new team soon since he is still very much capable of playing in the big league.

“He’s still waiting for the opportunity. He still has his tank full. Kayang-kaya pa niya talaga,” stressed Dy.

Mercado became a free agent last February after failing to come to terms with Phoenix.

The Fuel Masters earlier received the stocky guard from NorthPort in exchange for LA Revilla and Rey Guevarra. The deal was made shortly after the Batang Pier made it all the way to the semifinals despite finishing the elimination round in 8th place.

The 5th overall pick of the 2008 rookie draft was offered a spot in San Miguel Alab Pilipinas last March but turned it down citing his desire to continue playing in the PBA.

Aside from the Gin Kings and the Batang Pier, Mercado also saw action for Rain or Shine, Meralco, San Miguel and Barako Bull in a storied 11-year career.
