SOURCE: Greg Slaughter asked for an increase, no-trade clause in new contract

Not wanting to leave his team of six years, Greg Slaughter reportedly asked for a no-trade clause aside from a substantial pay increase in his new contract after his old one expired last January.

The 7-foot Fil-Am seemingly wanted the new terms in place after getting wind of a management plan to send him to NorthPort along with incoming rookie Jerrick Balanza for 2019 Governors’ Cup Best Player Christian Standhardinger.

Slaughter, sources claim, has made it clear that he won’t play for any team except Brgy. Ginebra.

“He told me that he doesn’t want to leave Ginebra. He knows that he is the subject of a trade rumor and he told me that he just doesn’t see himself playing for another team,” said a source from INQUIRER.net.

The two-for-one swap between the Gin Kings and the Batang Pier was actually considered by sources as a ‘done deal’ until the former University of the Visayas and Ateneo de Manila slotman announced on his social media accounts that he is taking an indefinite leave.

The said announcement, which came after team management apparently refused to give in to his demands, appeared like a farewell message to the entire team and its legion of followers. SMC Sports Director Alfrancis Chua, who also serves as the team’s Board representative, was conspicuously not mentioned.

Brgy. Ginebra coach Tim Cone, who is currently in the US for a vacation, plans to meet with the disgruntled center upon his return.
