Tim Cone gives injury update on Japeth Aguilar, Aljon Mariano

Brgy. Ginebra head coach Tim Cone gave an update on the playing status of Japeth Aguilar and Aljon Mariano during PBA Finals Press Conference at Novotel last Monday.

As per the league’s winningest mentor, Mariano is ‘physically ready’ to play in Game 1 of the Finals after a lengthy recovery period from surgery to remove bone spurs on his foot.

“We were hoping that Aljon will be ready for Game One. Ready is the term that we don’t really know,” said Cone.

“He is going to be physically ready but is he going to have rhythm? We don’t know exactly how much he can contribute. Physically, he is raring to go in Game One. We will figure out where his minutes fit as we go along,” he added.

The 29-year old forward last saw action during the quarterfinals of the 2021 Philippine Cup.

With regards to Aguilar, Cone bared that there’s been no significant changes so far.

“Japeth is basically, honestly day-to-day. Calf injury is very delicate. You don’t want to rush him back because it could get worst and knock him out for not only this conference but maybe in the next conference or longer,” Cone explaned.

“We have to be careful with him and make sure that he is very near 100 percent before we can bring him back on the court.”

The high-flying Aguilar sustained the injury during the semis series opener against NLEX last March 24 and hasn’t played ever since.
