Tim Cone on Brgy. Ginebra’s chances vs top-seeded TNT: ‘Our guys will battle’
Tim Cone is relieved that Barangay Ginebra has taken the last slot of the Philippine Cup Quarterfinals and he is not thinking yet on what awaits Barangay Ginebra in the playoffs.
“I don’t see it very much right now. I’ll see about it a little bit later on. It’s a little bit fresh right now. You can’t help but think about it,” stressed Cone after the Gin Kings defeated the Phoenix Fuel Masters in their Saturday knock-out match at the Don Honorio Ventura State University Gym in Bacolor, Pampanga.
A date with top seed and twice-to-beat TNT Tropang Giga awaits the defending champions and Tim Cone knows that it will be an uphill climb to eliminate the Chot Reyes-mentored team.
“They’re playing extremely good basketball. They’ve hardly been touched. I think the only team that really gave them a run for their money was San Miguel,” he said.
“But aside from that, they pretty dominated just about everybody,” added Cone. “We know our road is tough, there is no doubt about it. But our guys will battle.”
The Tropang Giga have won all but one game in the elimination round and appear to be on a mission to get back on the same team that denied them the championship in last year’s bubble tournament.
TNT also dominated Brgy. Ginebra, 88-67, in its lone meeting this conference behind the explosion of prized rookie guard Mikey Williams who torched the crowd darlings with his 27-point performance.
