Tim Cone slams Brgy. Ginebra bigs after loss to Meralco: ‘They need to come together better’

Despite being bothered by Christian Standhardinger’s freak accident which happened during the closing minute of Brgy. Ginebra’s losing effort against Meralco, Tim Cone couldn’t hide his disappointment with the way the team’s frontcourt performed that night.
Despite the height advantage over their Bolts counterpart, Standhardinger and Japeth Aguilar failed to work together as the Gin Kings absorbed their second straight defeat after opening the season-ending conference with three successive victories.
While the duo managed to finish in double figures, Standhardinger with 17 and Aguilar with 10, they only combined for 5 rebounds – with the latter grabbing none at all.
“We need better production from our big lineup. They’re not coming together as we hope. They need to come together better,” said Cone.
“We need our big lineup. Japeth, Christian, and Arvin. They need to be able to play together, a lot better than what they showed tonight to really take advantage of the players that we have,” he added.
It didn’t help that young bigs Tolentino and Prince Caperal likewise produced pedestrian numbers. The two combined for 8 points and 4 boards.
“They have to mix well so we can get them all on the court. If they can’t mix well together, then we have to bring them out one by one by one which is not taking advantage of the personnel that we have in the team,” explained Cone.
The Gin Kings will try to bounce back on Friday, February 18 when they take on the similarly struggling TNT Tropang Giga at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
