Tim Cone: “We’ll find ways to replace Greg Slaughter”
Brgy. Ginebra San Miguel head coach Tim Cone is still in the dark with regards to the playing status of Greg Slaughter.
The PBA’s winningest mentor, with 22 titles tucked under his belt, recently disclosed during an online interview in the vodcast Coaches Unfiltered that the 7-foot center, who is currently in the US, hasn’t returned his calls.
“We’ve tried to contact him a couple of times. I tried to contact him. He hasn’t responded. So we don’t know if he’s going to come back,” explained Cone.
The 62-year old former Alaska and Magnolia bench tactician, however, won’t be crying over spilled milk and instead plans to rely on the team’s roster of stars and role players.
“We still have a lot of weapons. It’s gonna be tough because he can be a force at times, and it’s just really tough having something ripped away from you like that without getting anything in return. But we’ll find ways to replace him,” said Cone.
“Maybe a little more Japeth [Aguilar], maybe a little bit more Stanley [Pringle], maybe Prince Caperal steps up. We have other options. Stanley is somebody who we are still very much exploring how to best use and where he fits. We only had him for a conference and a half so there’s a lot still to find out about him,” he added.
