WATCH: Arvin Tolentino Highlights [Brgy. Ginebra vs Meralco | October 18, 2020]
Brgy. Ginebra slammed Meralco, 105-91, Sunday at the Angeles University Foundation Sports Arena and Cultural Center in Angeles City, Pampanga to remain unbeaten after 3 outings in the 2020 PBA Philippine Cup restart.
The Gin Kings and the Bolts, who battled in 3 of the last 4 Governors’ Cup Finals which were all won by the league’s most popular squad, met for the first since January and the result was no different – the Tim Cone-mentored team came out on top and Japeth Aguilar was his usual dominant form.
Aguilar had his finest game inside the PBA bubble as the 33-year old high-flyer from Sasmuan, Pampanga poured in a team-high 20 points on an efficient 8-of-11 shooting from the field to go along with 4 rebounds, a steal and 2 blocks all in 22 minutes of action.
“I just thought it was a really great defensive effort tonight. We played great defense. I thought we did a really good job on their pick-and-roll and we weren’t getting a lot of breakdowns,” said head coach Tim Cone.
“Because there are very few breakdowns, we were forcing a lot of tough shots, getting rebounds, and we were creating a lot on our offense off our defense. I thought that was the best part for me. I just love seeing our team play defense like that,” he added.
Stanley Pringle, who was named as Best Player of the Game, contributed 16 points, 7 boards and 3 assists while Jeff Chan and rookie Arvin Tolentino added 12 and 11 markers, respectively.
Mark Caguioa saw action in his first game inside the PBA bubble and officially became the player with the longest tenure in a single team at 18 seasons. Alvin Patrimonio and Harvey Carey previously held the record of 17 with the Purefoods and TNT franchises, respectively.
The Gin Kings try to make it 4-0 when they take on the Phoenix Super LPG Fuelmasters on Wednesday, October 21 at the same venue.
