WATCH: Best Player – Scottie Thompson [Brgy. Ginebra vs Meralco | November 27, 2020]

Scottie Thompson drained a last-gasp corner trey with 0.6 ticks left on the game clock which shattered an 80-all deadlock and gave Brgy. Ginebra an 83-80 win over Meralco, Friday night at the Angeles University Foundation Sports Arena and Cultural Center in Angeles City, Pampanga.

The rousing victory over the Bolts propelled the Gin Kings to the championship round of the compressed All-Filipino conference where they’ll clash with the TNT Tropang Giga in a best-of-seven affair which kicks-off on Sunday, November 29.

The 27-year old Thompson finished with 20 points, 12 boards, 7 assists and a steal in 38 minutes of action as the Tim Cone-mentored squad barged into Finals for the second consecutive conference. The team is now on track to break a 13-year title drought in the league’s most prestigious tourney.

“It was amazing for Scottie. Scottie deserves that shot. He deserves all the recognition and all the laurels. There’s no one that works harder than Scottie,” said Cone during the post-game press conference.

“The play was designed for Stanley, and Stanley gave it up to Prince, and Prince gave it up to Scottie, and Scottie hit the shot. I’d like to think that that’s what we’re all about, that unselfishness,” he added. “From a coaching standpoint, it’s better to be lucky than good. And I just feel really lucky tonight. For Meralco, they battled so hard and we just seemed to find a way to make big shots.”

Stanley Pringle paced the Gin Kings with 22 points while LA Tenorio and Japeth Aguilar chipped in 14 and 12 markers, respectively.
