An expected live wire match pitting a Top 4-chasing Barangay Ginebra squad and back-to-the-wall NLEX side is featured in the concluding Saturday road showdown in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup elims in Legazpi City, Albay.

It’s the penultimate play date in the elims with both teams bent on going all out to push their respective bids.

Coach Tim Cone’s Gin Kings take a shot at an outright Top 4 finish and a twice-to-beat incentive in the quarters while coach Frankie Lim’s Road Warriors shoot for a playoff crack at the eight and last spot in the post-elims play.

The crucial face-off is set at 6:30 p.m. at the Ibalong Centrum for Recreation.

At posting time, Ginebra was locked in a three-way tie at third to fifth with San Miguel Beer and Meralco at 7-3. The Beermen and the Bolts were to face the Blackwater Bossing and the Terrafirma Dyip, respectively, in pursuit of spot in the Top 4 with the Magnolia Hotshots (9-2) and the Phoenix Fuel Masters (8-2).

They’re in a mad dash to the finish. If they end up tied at 8-3 or at 7-4, San Miguel will be No. 3, Ginebra No. 4 and Meralco No. 5 by virtue of the quotient tiebreak system.

And so a win by Tony Bishop and his teammates will guarantee them of the coveted position and the quarters bonus that goes with it.
