In the new PBA 3×3 season, Brgy. Ginebra fielded an intact team and quickly got the desired result.
Gin Kings Donald Gumaru, Kim Aurin, Ralph Cu, and Ralph Salcedo won the Season 3 First Conference Leg 1 title on Tuesday at the Ayala Malls Manila Bay by virtue of their team chemistry and extensive battle experience gained since last season.
And Kirk Collier’s squad completed a perfect six-game championship run with a thrilling 19-17 overtime victory over championship rival San Miguel Beer.
In Ginebra’s season-opening victory, Gumaru scored a team-high eight points, including the game-winning two-pointer from the corner in overtime.
Gumaru made a total of three two-point shots, which were supplemented by Kim Aurin’s 5 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists, Ralph Cu’s 4 points and 3 steals, and Ralph Salcedo’s 2 points in the decisive game.
The four, who prepared for the half-court competition by participating in the PBA on Tour, won gold for the second time after Ginebra’s breakthrough victory in Leg 3 of Season 2 Third Conference.
Brgy. Ginebra, the Pool C leader with a 3-0 record, advanced to the championship game by defeating Pioneer Elastoseal (19-16) and Terrafirma (17-17) in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively.
