Brgy. Ginebra held Terrafirma to just five points in the last seven minutes of play and carved out a 114-106 win in the PBA on Tour at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig Friday.
It was a duel of runs, and the Gin Kings prevailed on two key spurts in the last quarter, paving the way for a third straight win that propelled Ginebra to 4-3 overall.
Nards Pinto banged away a trey to touch off a 9-0 Ginebra spurt from 93-101 count, before Von Pessumal, Jeremiah Gray, Aljon Mariano and Donald Gumaru teamed up in a 12-0 finishing kick in their eight-point triumph coming on the heels of back-to-back nail-biters over Blackwater (81-80 in overtime) and Rain or Shine (108-107).
The Dyip, meanwhile, suffered back-to-back losses to Phoenix Super LPG and Ginebra, and dropped to 3-5.
Mariano had a double-double game with 25 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Ginebra squad which also drew double-digit outputs from Sidney Onwubere (20 points), Pessumal (17 with three treys), Gumaru (16) and Jayson David (11).
Gumaru, a recruit from Ginebra’s 3×3 team, rose to the occasion along with David, the hero in Ginebra’s last win over Rain or Shine.
Mariano, however, made the biggest damage on Terrafirma with his clutch hits, including a post attack versus Havey Gomez de Liano that all but settled the outcome of the game at 111-106 inside the final minute.
