WATCH: Brgy. Ginebra vs TNT Highlights [Finals Game 1 | PBA S47 Govs’ Cup | Apr. 9, 2023]
Obviously doing their assignment better during the Lenten break, the Barangay Ginebra Kings easily sustained their perfect run in the post-elims play.
Justin Brownlee and his teammates returned from the breather with their A1 game and blasted the TNT Tropang Giga, 102-90, in the opener of the PBA Governors’ Cup Finals before an 11,580-strong Easter Sunday crowd at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Brownlee provided early spark with a 17-point first-quarter showing then Jamie Malonzo, Christian Standhardinger, Scottie Thompson and Stanley Pringle had their own moments as the Kings dominated the kickoff in the race-to-four-games series.
The brilliant Ginebra resident import finished with 31 points and 12 rebounds and Malonzo, Standhardinger, Thompson and Pringle had their significant contributions as the Kings stretched to five games their unbeaten run in the playoffs while snapping the streak of elims top-notcher TNT.
Game 2 is at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday also at the Big Dome.
Malonzo top scored among the Ginebra locals with 21 points, Malonzo came through with a 10-13-11 triple-double while Standhardinger had a 16-11 double-double as Kings rolled on after eliminating NLEX in one game in the quarters then sweeping San Miguel Beer in their best-of-five semis showings.
They hardly lost sharpness and competitiveness in their 10-day respite, enjoying a lead as big as 18 against the TNT side beset by early exits of their big men.
