WATCH: Brgy. Ginebra vs TNT Highlights [Finals Game 2 | 2020 PH Cup | December 2, 2020]
Scottie Thompson overcame his offensive struggles and drained a clutch triple with 30.5 seconds left in the game to give Brgy. Ginebra the lead and eventually a 92-90 victory over TNT in Game 2 of the best-of-seven championship series, Wednesday night at the Angeles University Foundation Sports Arena and Cultural Center in Angeles City, Pampanga.
The 27-year old Thompson, who was 0-4 from the field prior to that huge three-pointer, finished with 3 points, 9 boards, 3 assists, 2 steals in close to 40 minutes of action. The 2018 Commissioner’s Cup Finals MVP, however, turned the ball over 6 times.
The win gave the Gin Kings, who trailed as much as 15 early in the 3rd frame, a 2-0 advantage and two wins shy of ending a 13-year title drought in the league’s most prestigious conference.
“It was certainly a struggle for us all game long. I thought Talk ‘N Text dominated us for more than three quarters of the game and we were able to make a run in the end,” said head coach Tim Cone during the post-game press conference.
“We were saying even at halftime we haven’t played well collectively and individually. Scottie was struggling, LA was struggling, for a while Stanley was struggling but of course he exploded. Japeth was struggling so the whole first five really struggled coming out of the gate,” he added.
Stanley Pringle paced the crowd darlings with 34 big points to go along with 6 rebounds, 8 assists and a steal. Aljon Mariano backstopped the high-scoring Fil-Am with 20 markers.
LA Tenorio added 5 points – all coming from free throws made during the closing moments of the match.
Game 3 of the series is scheduled on Friday, December 4, 6:00 pm at the same venue.
