PBA Season 48 Commissioner's Cup
Magnolia remained perfect in the PBA Season 48 Commissioner’s Cup with a spotless 4-0 record. In their latest victory, the Hotshots staged an impressive comeback to defeat Brgy. Ginebra with a score of 93-91 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Led by Tyler Bey, Magnolia fought back from a 26-point deficit to secure their 4th consecutive win and 15th overall including the preseason PBA on Tour. Bey played a pivotal role in bringing the Hotshots back into the game and dismantling the Gin Kings, turning the Manila Clasico from a one-sided contest into a true classic.
As a former Dallas Maverick, Bey showcased his skills by scoring 16 of his 31 points in the fourth quarter. His crucial free throws ultimately sealed the victory for the Hotshots, marking their most significant comeback win in the tournament thus far.
Initially, Brgy. Ginebra appeared to have the game in the bag with a comfortable 60-35 lead at halftime.
However, in the subsequent period, the Hotshots made a strong comeback, narrowing the gap to 64-72. They continued to pursue their opponents, eventually catching up at 83-all thanks to a floater by Bey.
It was Bey himself who gave the Hotshots their first taste of the lead with a jam, and from that point on, there was no stopping them from executing a come-from-behind win.
Bey had an impressive performance, finishing with 31 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 steals. Jio Jalalon also played a crucial role in the third period, contributing 15 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists.
Among the Hotshots, Mark Barroca was the only other player to reach double figures with 13 points, while Paul Lee ended the game with 9 points and 7 assists.
On the other hand, Brgy. Ginebra’s starters – Tony Bishop (21 points, 12 rebounds), Maverick Ahanmisi (21 points), Japeth Aguilar (12 points), Christian Standhardinger (13 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists), and Scottie Thompson (12 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists), all put up impressive numbers. However, their performance tapered off in the second half.
