WATCH: Clear landing spot foul by Cliff Hodge on Justin Brownlee called as regular foul!
With a clutch performance from their resident champion import, titleholder Barangay Ginebra struck back versus Meralco Friday night, thus making a lot more exciting Chapter 4 of their PBA Governors’ Cup finals rivalry.
Justin Brownlee flirted with a triple-double highlighted by a thunderous jam from a steal in the crunch as the Kings held off the Bolts, 99-93, to forge a 1-1 deadlock in the best-of-seven title series.
A vast majority of the 12,248 fans at the MOA Arena got up on their feet as Brownlee grabbed the ball away from Chris Banchero then went for a two-handed jam that essentially won it for the Kings in a rebound from their 104-91 defeat in Game One.
The two squads play another match at the same venue as they duke it out for the 2-1 series lead Sunday.
With a torrid shooting, the Kings led by 18, 60-42, at the half but nearly squandered it, and needed the heroics of Brownlee to avoid falling to a 2-0 hole.
After making it 96-91 on a steal and a basket with still 1:22 left to play, Brownlee himself sealed the deal with three free throws inside the last 30 seconds.
He finished with 36 points and 13 rebounds, and narrowly missed a triple-double with nine assists in another sterling job for the leading Best Import candidate.
