Brgy. Ginebra vs San Miguel SF Game 1 | PBA Season 49 Governors' Cup

Justin Brownlee caught fire in Game 1 of the PBA 49th Season Governors’ Cup semifinals, delivering an electrifying performance that propelled Barangay Ginebra to a decisive 122-105 victory over San Miguel on Wednesday at the Philsports Arena.

With an impressive tally of 33 points, Brownlee showcased his shooting prowess, sinking five four-pointers and maintaining a flawless record from beyond the arc until a late miss in the third quarter, marking his only misfire from that distance. His stellar play helped the Gin Kings seize a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Contributions from Stephen Holt and RJ Abarrientos were crucial as well, reinforcing Ginebra’s dominance despite an eight-day hiatus following their quarterfinal sweep of Meralco. Both players exhibited sharp skills in the series opener, highlighting the team’s readiness and cohesion.

Holt finished the game with 30 points, eight rebounds, and four assists, while Abarrientos made a notable impact by scoring 11 of his 13 points in a pivotal second-quarter run, marking their first semifinal appearances in the PBA.

For the Beermen, EJ Anosike put up 27 points and eight rebounds, while Marcio Lassiter added 18 points. June Mar Fajardo achieved a double-double with 16 points and 16 rebounds, but his performance paled in comparison to his staggering Game Five effort in the quarterfinals, where he amassed 40 points and 24 rebounds against Converge.

Brownlee’s five four-pointers ignited a pivotal third quarter, during which Barangay Ginebra outscored San Miguel 34-20, establishing a commanding 97-78 lead.

Scottie Thompson also made his mark with an all-around performance, contributing 10 points, six rebounds, and 10 assists.

With the victory well in hand, Brownlee had the luxury of resting for Game Two, logging just 28 minutes on the court in the blowout win.
