For the second straight game, Barangay Ginebra pulled off a steal of a win.
Four nights after an 81-80 escape act in overtime versus Blackwater, the Gin Kings came through with almost the same trick against Rain or Shine, squeezing through, 108-107, on endgame heroics by Jayson David at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig Sunday.
The 6-foot-3 forward scored on two daring drives to the basket at the finish, punctuating a 7-0 closing punch that saved the night for the Kings after playing catch-up most of the second half.
Ginebra trailed by as many as 10 and was down by six, 101-107, with 1:49 left to play. But the Kings extricated themselves from a tight spot and stole the game in the end, thus, handing the Elasto Painters a first loss after a 4-0 start in the preseason event presented by Arena Plus and sponsored by Bingo Plus.
With back-to-back come-from-behind wins, the Kings improved to 3-3.
David, elevated from the 3×3 scene, was a magic bunot in the dying seconds in Ginebra’s stunner versus ROS.
He was 0-of-2 from the field before being called to sub for a cramping Nards Pinto in the last 1:49 mark.
